Overview
The Unit Assistant provides clerical support in the Emergency Department. Facilitates communication with other departments, visitors, patients, medical staff and employees. Serves as a public relations liaison for the unit.
Qualifications
Education: H.S. Diploma/GED
Work Experience: Healthcare Preferred
Responsibilities
- Answer incoming phone calls for the Emergency Department (ED).
- Manage patient admissions and discharges within the EPIC electronic medical record system.
- Complete data tracking and documentation for EKGs and telemetry boxes.
- Serve as a liaison between outside facilities, physicians, nursing staff, patients, and families.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to coordinate patient care and communication.
- Maintain and replenish office and nursing station supplies.
- Complete and maintain administrative paperwork for ED staff.
- Schedule non-emergent patient transportation.
- Facilitate communication between hospital departments, clinics, and nursing units.
- Notify nursing staff of required tests, examinations, and significant patient concerns.
- Support communication between physicians, patients, families, and clinical staff.
- Initiate and document daily Level 1 Trauma and Medical Alert system testing.
- Send and receive items through the pneumatic tube system.
- Submit work orders for facility and equipment issues.
- Remove, label, and route broken equipment to appropriate locations for repair.
- Monitor and coordinate patient flow within the Emergency Department.
- Provide clerical and operational support to ensure efficient department workflows.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation within departmental systems.
- Support unit operations through effective communication and coordination of resources.

Compensation and Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $16.91per hour - $27.39per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
